Current Favorite – KonMarie
I’ve been reading a lot about living with less (also known as minimalist living), and so far one of my favorite go-to books about living with less has been Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I’m half way through book and I thought I would share with you all my journey of living with only what I need using Kondo’s tips.
I’ve been writing down some of her tips in my Moleskin Notebook. A little off topic here, but I get the Plain format notebooks because I like the freedom of writing or drawing. Dried roses look pretty on it as well, so that’s a plus.
I’m working on the first part of her book which is all about discarding. I find this to be especially difficult. It’s hard to let go of things, even if they’re just items of clothing. I’m still at the beginning stages of this whole discarding thing, and that’s going to be another blog post entirely on it’s own. I’m just gathering up ‘like’ things in the same area. Clothing items are the first thing I’m tackling right now.
I’ve gathered all like items in one area, and I’ve been looking through all my items and discard whatever it is I have not used in a while, or anything that does not spark joy. My goal is to donate all the items I’ve decided to discard, and to throw away all the clothing items that are damaged. It’s harder then it sounds to look through things and only choosing what I want to keep. This process has also made me second guess if I should buy something when I go out to the mall. I think about whether it would bring me joy to own that shirt…or pair of pants.
Anyone else tackling their wardrobe? I highly recommend Marie Kondo’s book!
